Spring is the perfect time of year to take a good look at HVAC systems to assess their overall condition and determine what cleaning, repairs or replacements might be necessary. The visible portions of an HVAC system include grilles, vents, vent covers, registers, and floor grates.
“Having loose, rusty or warped, dust filled or pet hair clogged filters, grilles, vents and registers can put a real damper on the efficiency of the entire HVAC system,” said Anthony Giumenta, President of Architectural Grille, a leading manufacturer of custom HVAC grilles and custom HVAC Floor Registers, based in Brooklyn New York. “To keep an HVAC system working properly it should be cleaned once a year and replaced filters much more often. And be on the lookout for mold and mildew too, especially during the summer months, as mold and mildew can thrive in a ventilation system.”
If mold is discovered on HVAC components Giumenta says it can be safely cleaned off with a solution of 3 parts water to 1 part household liquid bleach. “It’s always best to remove the affected grilles, register, and vents before cleaning them with bleach to avoid the risk of the solution fading or damaging floors, curtains, carpets, ceiling tiles, or linoleum. If you use a spray bottle be sure to wear gloves and a mask, and be sure to rinse the grille thoroughly with water after cleaning. When you put the grills and registers back on be sure they are firmly screwed in place,” he said.
“For removal of dirt or grim a mild household cleaner and a soft cloth will do nicely. A vacuum attachment works great to remove stubborn dust clogs and pet hairs. You may also want to use a small brush, like a toothbrush, to thoroughly clean between the vents.”
High quality, well made grills and registers can be easily cleaned and freshened up. But for cheap, off the shelf products that are beyond a quick fix, replacing them can be the safest, most efficient and cost effective decision.
It you determine that your HVAC grilles and registers need replacing, Giumenta suggest that you consider replacing them with beautiful new custom grilles and floor registers from Architectural Grille. For just a little more than you would pay lesser quality, off the shelf products, you can add a touch of elegance to your home with custom made bar grilles, perforated grilles and durable floor registers that can last for decades. As a top manufacture of these products, Architectural Grille features a wide variety of custom grilles, as well as modern and traditional styles, using the latest technology, and easy to care for finishes that will be appreciated and admired for years to come.
